This unique architectural gem is located in Lexington. It was beginning to show it's age with missing mortar, stains and deterioration of the sandstone. The house was completely repointed, cleaned and new matching sandstone was brought in from England to replace most of the sills. Jahn stone patching was used to repair some of the intricate carvings.
The mortar joints of this building were partially pointed, then the building was cleaned and the brick sealed. The face of the brick was beginning to deteriorate and the church was concerned that further neglect would accelerate this process. They also replaced the roof and flashing to complete the preventive maintenance.
When we first met with the owners of this house, they were thrilled with their purchase of an old house with all of the interior woodwork intact. He told me to do the best we could with the dull drab yellow brick. Little did we know when we began cleaning the masonry that we would literally stop traffic with surprised neighbors watching as we uncovered this gem. This picture doesn't begin to do justice to the beautiful range of yellow tones of the brick we uncovered. The outside of the house went from their lowest reason to love the house to one of their favorites.
Completed after the Promenade, this project was done to stop the leaks into the office space beneath the terrace. The old paving brick, drains and roofing material were removed. A new roof membrane was installed to flow into the trench drains. We then covered that with asphalt, (yes asphalt) and laid the new paving brick.
This was our first major restoration project in the early 80's. The original architect masterfully combined the various masonry materials. The upper floors are a combination of a pale brown brick and matching terra cotta. The middle floors are red brick. The second floor is a white terra cotta and the first floor is granite. A wonderful building in downtown Lexington.
A rarely seen barn on one of Kentucky's oldest horse farms. A poorly maintained roof had caused the masonry to begin to deteriorate. We were brought in for some minor repairs and cleaning.
The former YWCA building was converted to house the Lexington Arts and Cultural Council. Minor repairs were made to the masonry before a thorough cleaning.
Built of yellow sandstone from the quarries in southern Kentucky, this graceful sanctuary has served as a place of worship for generations. The exterior masonry was restored along with the slate roof replacement. The project required that the upper walls of the tower be taken apart and reassembled. New steel beams were installed to improve the structural integrity of the masonry. See photos below.
The terra cotta tile were removed and the crumbling brick replaced with block, concrete and steel.
This historic stately structure is the anchor of downtown Georgetown Kentucky. We were part of the complete restoration of the building in the mid-nineties. All of the mortar was replaced along with stone patching and cleaning.
